Privacy policy

This policy explains, in plain language, what personal data Myra collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other Indian law. It applies to the Myra website, the Myra app and every service we offer through them.

Who we are

Myra is a verification-first dating and introductions service for adults aged 18 to 45 in India, operated by HM Aslam in India. For the personal data described here, Myra is the data fiduciary: we decide why and how it is processed.

You can reach us by email at hello@myradating.com. Formal complaints go to our grievance officer, whose details are on the grievance redressal page.

Information you give us

Account details: the mobile number or email address you sign in with. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google email address and name.

Profile details: your first name, date of birth (to confirm you are an adult), gender, who you would like to meet, what you are looking for, the languages you speak, your interests, the city and area you choose (or that we find for you if you use your current location), your photos (with any caption and place name you add to them) and your answers to profile prompts.

Preferences and settings: the age range and distance you prefer, notification choices, photo blur and conversation settings.

Messages and activity: introductions you respond to, matches, chat messages and images you send, blocks, reports you file, event RSVPs and campus circles you join.

Campus verification: if you verify a college email, we store only its domain and a secure one-way hash of the address, never the address itself.

Safety tools: if you add a trusted contact or use Share my date, we store that contact’s name and phone number and the details you choose to share. Please only add people who are happy to receive a message from Myra.

Contact form: if you write to us through the contact page, we store your name, email address, optional mobile number, topic and message, and use them only to reply to you. These messages are kept for up to two years.

Information collected automatically

When you use Myra we collect basic technical information needed to run and protect the service: your IP address, device and browser type, pages and screens used, the time of each request, and error reports. We use it to keep you signed in, prevent abuse such as repeated code requests, investigate problems and keep the service secure.

If you turn on push notifications, we store the subscription your browser gives us so we can send them. If you install Myra on your home screen, the app stores an offline page on your device, but never your profile or messages.

Cookies and similar technologies

Essential cookies keep you signed in and remember your privacy choices. They are needed for the service to work and cannot be switched off.

With your permission only, we also measure how the site is used and whether our advertising reaches the right people. This happens from our servers: we send Google Analytics and Meta a random pseudonymous identifier and the type of event (for example, that an account was created). We never send your name, phone number, email, photos or profile details. You can change your choice at any time from Privacy choices in the site footer or in Settings.

How and why we use your information

We use your information to create and secure your account; confirm that you are a real adult; prepare your daily introductions; run chat and events; show campus features if you verify a college; send codes, notifications and important service messages; keep members safe, review reports and enforce our community guidelines; respond to your requests and complaints; and meet our legal obligations.

We process your personal data on the basis of your consent, which you give when you create an account and agree to this policy, and for certain legitimate uses permitted by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, such as complying with the law, responding to legal requests and protecting the safety of members. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time; this does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew it.

Introductions and automated decisions

Your daily introductions are prepared automatically. Firm rules are applied first: both people must fall within each other’s age range, want to meet each other’s gender, share the same intent, live within each other’s distance limit and not have blocked or reported each other. Among people who pass, shared languages, interests and prompt answers, recent activity and reply habits affect the order and the reasons you see.

We do not use caste, religion, income or appearance ratings to rank people, and no one can pay to be shown more often. Automated systems never ban an account on their own; any decision to suspend an account is reviewed by a person.

To protect members from scams, each chat message is checked automatically when it is sent for signs such as requests for money, UPI or bank details, gift cards, or contact details shared very early. This only adds a safety warning for the person who receives it; messages are not blocked or read by staff because of it. If someone asks for money in several conversations within a week, their profile is paused and a member of our team reviews those conversations before any further decision.

What other members can see

Members you are introduced to or matched with see your first name, age, area and city, approved photos (blurred until you both agree, if you turn that on), prompt answers, languages, interests, intent and verification badge.

No one else on Myra can see your phone number, email address, date of birth, exact location, verification selfie, reports or the people you have passed on. Public pages on our website never show member profiles, photos or counts.

Sensitive information

Some details on a dating profile can reveal sensitive things about you, such as who you would like to meet. We use these only to prepare introductions you asked for, never show them on public pages, never sell them and never use them for advertising. Your photos and verification selfie are treated with the same care.

Verification selfies and photo checks

Before your profile is shown to anyone, you take a short live selfie check: you look at the camera and do two quick moves, such as turning your head or smiling. Myra’s own software, running on our servers, measures each picture (whether there is one real, live face, whether the moves were done, and how closely your face matches your profile photos). Your selfie is not sent to any outside verification company. If the software isn’t sure, a member of our team looks at the first picture to decide.

The pictures are deleted as soon as a decision is made, unless the law requires us to keep them. We keep only the result, the date and the check’s scores (numbers, not images). Profile photos and chat images are also screened by our own software before others see them; borderline photos are checked by a member of our team.

Location

If you tap “Use my current location” while setting up or editing your profile, your phone or browser asks your permission first. Your device then shares its position with Myra once, and we use it only to find the nearest area. We do not store that position or keep it in our logs, and you can change the area before saving. You can always choose a city and area yourself instead.

We store only the centre point of your area, and use it to work out distances between areas. Other members see your area and city, never an exact location. Photos you upload are re-saved without hidden location data. Share my date sends the place you type, not your live location.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as described here.

Service providers who process data for us under contract and only on our instructions: database hosting and file storage (Supabase, Mumbai region), website hosting (Vercel, Mumbai region), email delivery, SMS delivery, error monitoring and, only with your permission, Google Analytics and Meta for measurement.

Other members, as described in “What other members can see”.

Law enforcement, courts and government authorities, when Indian law requires it or when it is necessary to prevent serious harm to someone.

A successor, if Myra is reorganised, merged or sold; your data would remain protected by this policy and we would tell you before it is used differently.

Where your data is stored

Your account data and files are stored in data centres in India (Mumbai). Some service providers, such as email delivery, measurement or error monitoring, may process limited data outside India. When that happens we use providers bound by contractual safeguards, and we do not transfer data to any country the Government of India restricts under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

How long we keep information

We keep your data for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, introductions, matches and messages, together with the photos and chat images stored for them.

Some things are kept for shorter or longer periods for specific reasons: sign-in codes expire within minutes; verification selfies are deleted once a decision is made; technical logs are kept for a limited period for security; and a minimal record of reports and moderation decisions, plus a one-way hash of any mobile number or email blocked for belonging to someone under 18, is kept for as long as needed for safety and legal compliance.

How we protect information

Data is encrypted in transit. Every database table is protected by row-level security, so each person can reach only the data they are allowed to see. Photos, selfies and chat images sit in private storage and are shown only through short-lived links. Phone numbers and emails used for blocks and sign-in codes are stored as one-way hashes. Staff need two-factor authentication, see only what their role needs, and their actions are recorded in an audit log.

No system is perfectly secure. If a personal data breach affects you, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you have the right to: get a summary of your personal data and how we process it; correct or update it; have it erased; withdraw consent; have a grievance redressed; and nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become incapable.

Many of these work instantly in the app: edit your profile, change your settings, download your data from Settings, or delete your account from Settings. For anything else, write to hello@myradating.com from the mobile number’s or email’s account holder, and we will respond within the time the law allows.

Your duties

The law also asks you to give accurate information, not to impersonate anyone, not to suppress material information when you verify your identity, and not to file false or frivolous complaints.

Children

Myra is only for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you enter a date of birth under 18, the account is deleted and the mobile number or email used is permanently blocked. If you believe someone under 18 is using Myra, report the profile in the app or write to hello@myradating.com.

Marketing messages

We send service messages you need, such as sign-in codes, safety updates and important changes to these policies. News and offers are sent only if you choose them in Settings, and you can stop them at any time.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our services or the law change. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect and, where needed, ask for your consent again.
