Writing prompt answers that start real conversations

By The Myra team · Published September 17, 2026

Every Myra profile has three short prompts. They might look like a small part of the profile next to your photos, but they do a lot of work. They are used to find reasons for your introductions, and they are where suggested openers come from when you match. A good answer gives the other person something easy and pleasant to reply to.

Be specific

Compare "I love travelling" with "I once took a 36-hour train from Guwahati to Bengaluru and would do it again for the jhalmuri at every station". The first is true of almost everyone. The second tells someone how you travel, what you notice and what makes you happy, and it practically writes the first message for them.

Specific does not mean dramatic. "Sunday mornings are for idli at the same darshini my father took me to" is specific, warm and easy to reply to.

Write like you speak

You do not need perfect grammar or clever lines. Write the way you would answer the question if a friend asked you over chai. If you naturally mix languages, that is fine; many people on Myra do, and shared languages are one of the reasons we look for.

Leave a door open

The best answers invite a reply. Mention something the other person could ask about, recommend or disagree with:

  • "Still looking for the best vada pav in Thane. Accepting strong opinions."
  • "Currently learning the tabla, badly. My neighbours are very patient."
  • "I will always say yes to a heritage walk if someone else wakes me up."

Be honest about what you want

Prompts are a good place to add a little colour to your intent. If you are looking for something serious, you can say what that means to you without writing a list of requirements. If you are here for friendship first, say what kind of friendship you enjoy.

What to leave out

  • Lists of things you do not want. They read as negative and rarely help.
  • Your phone number, social handles or workplace. These stay private until you choose to share them.
  • Anything about other members, past matches or exes.
  • Jokes that rely on someone's caste, religion, body or background.

Update them

Your prompts are not fixed. If you start a new hobby, move to a new area or simply think of a better answer, change them. Fresh, specific answers lead to better reasons, and better reasons lead to better conversations.

Ready to be introduced?

Set up your profile in about ten minutes. Your first introductions arrive once you are verified.
