Safety centre

Safety is built in, not bolted on

Meeting someone new should feel exciting, not risky. These are the protections every Myra member has from the first day, and the advice we give for meeting in person.

  • Every profile is verified

No profile is visible until its owner passes a live selfie check. Photos are checked before they are shown, and anyone under 18 is permanently blocked from signing up with that number.

  • Your details stay private

Other members never see your phone number, email address or date of birth. Your location is shown only as an area and city, never an exact point. Photo files are stripped of hidden location data when you upload them.

  • Photo blur

Turn on photo blur and your photos stay blurred for a match until you both tap Show photos.

  • You can choose who writes first

Women can turn on "only I can start the conversation", so a match cannot message them until they do.

  • Block and report from every screen

Every profile and chat has block and report. Blocking takes effect immediately and ends any match. Reports go to a person on our team, with a target of reviewing each one within 24 hours. Profiles that receive several reports are hidden automatically while we review them.

  • Share my date

Before you meet, send the time, the place and your match's first name to a trusted contact in a couple of taps.

Advice for meeting in person

  1. 1

Keep the first meeting in a busy public place, such as a café, a mall food court or a well-lit promenade.

  2. 2

Arrange your own travel there and back. Do not accept a pick-up from someone you have not met.

  3. 3

Tell a friend where you are going, or use Share my date.

  4. 4

Stay in control of your drink and your belongings.

  5. 5

Never send money, gift cards or financial details to someone you met online, whatever the story.

  6. 6

Trust your instincts. You can leave at any time, and you can end the chat on Myra without explanation.

In an emergency

If you are in immediate danger, call 112 (national emergency number). For harassment of women, the Women Helpline is 181 in most states, and cybercrime can be reported at cybercrime.gov.in or by calling 1930.
